When and why is a Roadworthy Test required?

National Road Traffic Act.93 of 1996, Regulations 128 – 283B

South African National Standard 10216 of 2017 and 10047

According to the National Road Traffic Act a Roadworthy Test on a road vehicle is required when, upon the second and subsequent ownership registration/s of all road vehicles. South Africa’s National Transport system (eNatis) automatically blocks a vehicle license disc renewal upon the vehicles second and subsequent ownership registration/s, where it will inform the new owner as: CRW required.

Secondary transaction such as vehicle Police clearance, or by Traffic Police instruction, a Roadworthy Test is also required.

The entirety of the Act, and the regulations relevant to the roadworthiness of vehicles, are in law for the purpose of our Public Road Safety.

As for and as an Act of public goodwill, it is therefore imperative that everyone takes responsibility concerning the Roadworthiness of their motor vehicle/s, by regularly visiting a Vehicle Testing Station licensed with the Department of Transport and audited by the SABS.
